Galaxy, 2006

Commissioned by Ontario Science Center, Ontario, Canada

Galaxy is a whimsical, interactive art installation. It allows the viewer to control light patterns by touching a field of soft and tactile electronic POM POMs and tufts. These textile sensors are capacitive and measure the touch of the viewer. The viewer controls the lighting effects and pattern by touching the sensors. The sensors allow the viewer to dim or turn on and off different light areas, creating a variety of patterns and effects on the piece. Textile sensors are attached directly to the acrylic background.

Media: Hand-made conductive sensors, conductive yarns, conductive tape, felt, acrylic, wood, incandescent light, lighting control circuitry. Four textile sensor areas. 48"w x 48"h.
